Aluvi intended to tackle the surprisingly complex problem of ridesharing for commuters. Still in its early stages, much of the design was driven by the needs of the backend technologies. I worked closely with engineers to extract parts of the onboarding and ride scheduling that felt cumbersome in an attempt to prompt the user to enter information only when it was needed to proceed. With extensive flow charts and user testing I was able to pair down this process to be less confusing and more enjoyable. In a further effort to make the app more lightweight, I focused on reducing repetitive input from the user. I designed nightly reminders and low-impact notifications to encourage repeat use without becoming annoying.

It was challenging to create the graphic design, as several of the main interactions happened on top of a map and looking back there are a number of things I would do differently. Most glaringly, I had wanted to add bright splashes of color to break up the monotony of large swaths of the “map base”, but some choices made excluded those with colorblindness. Additionally the cartography needed one or two more passes to be effective, especially the map pins.
